Work-life balance is a phrase that you hear all the time and it's something that many profess to be striving to achieve. I wonder though about the underlying assumption that the simple words imply, that is that work is something you do to earn a living and life is when you really enjoy yourself.
As a Career Coach I want my clients to be inspired by their work and gain fulfilment and pleasure from what they do. Most spend at least half our waking hours at work and to spend that much time feeling stifled or in a sitaution where you feel you have few choices is an unhealthy state of affairs.
Work is an important part of life as a whole and in work we should all have an opportunity to be the best we can be and show our true potential. If work fills this role for you then that is fantastic, if not take a few moments to think of the small changes you can make to get more good out of your work.
