Ryboc – The Purchasing Experts
Negotiation Tactics are used all the time in business and are a set of skills for life.
We are all constantly negotiating, whether you are negotiating a multimillion dollar deal, a salary rise, negotiating with the car salesman or just negotiating with your partner or children, we all negotiate through our life.
Through this blog I hope to offer advice and tips and explain the commonly used negotiation tactics which can be applied to almost any negotiation and suggest a counter if used on you.
This is probably the most popular negotiation tactic, the aim of which is to continue negotiation after the deal has supposedly been done, finding smaller issues to attack figuring that lots of small gains can equal a large gain.
This tactic is most effective when both parties have spent a considerable amount of time in finalising the negotiation and that both parties would be unlikely to terminate the deal. For example, to ask for extended warranty or maintenance not included in the main purchase.
Most individuals will not go back on the deal after so much time has been put into it. If you choose to try the chipping technique, you may not want to ask for too much as this can break down the entire process.
Suggested response if used on you– Calculate a valid cost for each small issue and only give any concessions if you receive a fair value.
Chipping away is a very simple and also very effective tactic used in the negotiation process. There are many others, all of which have their place, and I will be sharing more with you over the coming days and weeks.
