Being part of a gun club such as Southdown Gun Club comes with lots of benefits and opportunities. There are plenty of things you can do and learn at a gun club from experts, that you may not have access to otherwise. Being a member can also help boost your social life, with events and regular interactions with others who share your passion or thirst for learning about shooting.

What Does Being a Member of a Gun Club Entail?

Clay pigeon shooting – Almost every gun club offers clay pigeon shooting. It is increasingly popular as it is cruelty free. Also, you do not need to have a shotgun certificate to shoot clays, that is if you are on an approved ground or practice range – which is what a gun club has. At a gun club, you can learn how to clay pigeon shoot, even as the most beginner or beginners can pick it up with the help of those at a gun club. Even very experienced clay shooters choose to have more lessons to improve their technique and erase any bad habits that may have been formed throughout their time shooting.

Deer Stalking – The UK has a thriving deer population that offers remarkable sporting opportunities. However, deer need to be carefully managed. If you are over the age of 18, it is legal for you to borrow and use a rifle. This is again, provided you are under close supervision of a certificate holder (a member of a gun club).

What are the Benefits of Being Part of a Gun Club?

Being part of a gun club comes with many benefits. Gun clubs typically offer:

  • Shooting instruction
  • Shooting competitions
  • Shooting practice
  • Shooting supplies – so now need to fork out too much money on your own equipment.
  • Stag & Hen activities – you can organise your own event to be held in the gun club, involving clay pigeon shooting, for example. These are specifically designed towards those who may have never shot before, or even held a gun.

You have access the ‘shooting school’ which offer activities such as practice shooting, sporting, compak and many more. As a bonus, these are often available all year round. When you are a member of a gun club, it will open up social opportunities with those who have similar interests to you. Gun clubs often hold events throughout the year that you will have access to as a member.
