Social Networking: legal dos and dont's

I have recently attended a marketing and sales event highlighting the benefits of marketing and of social networking as a way of creating a network of friends and finding support (whether for personal or business related matters).

However, just as it happened in 2000 with the e-commerce boom, what we do not hear about is the legal issues anyone using or providing a social networking site should consider.

So I thought it would help if I shared…

Three debates down; one week to go; what are your preferences?

No, this is not a blog post about political parties and your voting preferences. It's about reflecting on how our personality and our preferences for the way in which we work, live our lives, and communicate impacts on others and how they see us.

As an MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) Practitioner I have been facinated by the recent debates by the Party Leaders, not only because of the election, but also because of the analysis by personality and body language experts. If…

I've just received an email from 4networking telling me to watch this

Key facts about intellectual property and intelectual property audit

Intellectual Property (IP) rights are increasingly seen as a safe and popular market to invest in.

IP generates (extra) licensing revenues, when: (i) it is licensed out to third parties, (ii) it is asserted against potential infringers (who prefer paying royalties, than the exorbitant expense of IP litigation) and (iii) of course, it is used internally to achieve economies of scale and competitive advantage.

The increase in…

Car Hire Excess Insurance Comparison site launched - a UK 1st for Wokingham based moneymaxim.co.uk

Its nice to be first!

For anyone out there who has been frustrated at the high cost of getting insurance when hiring a car help is at hand!

Having discovered car hire excess insurance a few years ago after being charged more for insurance than the cost of my hire car I am a real advocate of these cost saving policies.

They not only cost a fraction of the price demanded by hire companies, but also offer better cover - they cover windscreens, tyres,…

Do i need a Wedding Planner?

With everyone leading hectic lives juggling work and family, it can be ever increasingly difficult for a newly engaged couple to plan their wedding to the standard they have both always dreamed of (well i say they, i mean the bride to be)

With weddings on average taking between 250 - 300 hours to plan, leading hectic lives and wedding planning do not go hand in hand.

There is a common misconception that people don't need a wedding planner and…

English Summer and a Classical Festival...

The end of May brings the English Music Festival, a highly respected charitable event where hidden English Classics are bought to the forefront and celebrated over a number of days and concerts. I will be there this year snapping away and capturing some imagery suitable for marketing and PR use in the future but to get things started I needed to get a few snaps of the founder, Em Marshall. We took these in a beautiful pub in… Continue

Satisfaction in 3 minutes....honest....

Somewhat behind with the blogging this week so apologies. Honestly, where is time going? The last few months have been madness...yesterday I was waking up and waiting anxiously for Father Christmas to eat my homemade mince pies. I am not a fan of this whirlwind in which time travels.

I attended a speed networking event today at Donnington Country Club with the lovely people from Berkshire Speed Networks, Catherine and John. Having been to a few events I feel I have a good overview of… Continue

For me, SPAM doesn't work, Captain Kirk...

Aren'tcha just sick of SPAM, Spock?

Don't know about you, but I get over 200 emails a day, and 90% of them are pure SPAM... :0(

Now like most (fairly) sane adults these days, I have an inbuilt SPAM filter in my brain. When I get targeted by a pure sales message, up go the deflector shields, and my mind heads off at warp speed in the opposite direction (pausing only to…

Small changes to your website make such a difference

Well here I am sitting in front of my fire on a miserable Sunday afternoon, snow shovel thankfully hanging back in the garden shed. To warm up my day I have been reading the Sunday Times Small Business section which today is reporting on a number of small businesses that have increased sales by large percentages due to revamping or just making a few changes to their web sites. I will not try to repeat the full article but here are a few extracts:

Jamie…

Is it possible £ Could Collapse in Weeks!

Think of money as a substitute for gold.

Gold has a value because of its scarcity (if we overlook its aesthetic appeal, non degrading properties and certain technical advantages e.g. electrical conductivity).

If alchemists has been right, and you could make gold from common metals, then the value of gold would have fallen. It would no longer be a scarce, hard to win commodity.

Money only has a value because of this scarcity. An example, if a mars bar costs a… Continue

Tax Deadline Is Nearly Here

Just to remind everyone that if you have not already done so, you must file your tax return for 2008-09 by the end of next week. If you have a payment to be made for that year, plus the first instalment for 2009-10, HMRC must have cleared funds by 31 January 2010 to make sure you don't incurr interest and late penalty charges.

With tax rates rising from this April and the prospect of further increases when the new government is elected in late spring, I would urge everyone to get… Continue
