Health and Safety often gets a bad name - and you know what - sometimes it's deserved. What people often fail to appreciate that it is often not the enforcing authority that is the reason why controls are over the top but often it as a result of poor judgement about risk or about avoiding personal liability (and to be fair, until you've been given that potential liability, without the knowledge to make reasonable decisions, you should not judge them too critically).
There are… Continue

Direct selling offers a much needed additional financial opportunity for many people during a recession, whether it's to supplement an existing income or a full-time career option.
Being introduced to direct selling was a revelation to me - the fact that you… Continue

Hi, a new Social Network called Path
was launched yesterday and although I was intiially sceptical, the concept is really growing on me! Each account is going to be limited to 50 friends and it's designed to be a much tighter network of people you really care about and trust and it's firmly focused on sharing photos on your daily 'path
It's initially based around an iphone app but I'm sure it won't be… Continue

Yesterday there was a lot of noise on the social networks about facebooks big announcement. Some predicted the announcement of @facebook.com email addresses and that's certainly part of it but the main focus is on developing one message centre for all of your communications; facebook messages, emails, texts, instant messages etc. I read a lot of blogs and tweets in the build up with people focusing on the email facility but I couldn't really get my head around why facebook would take a step… Continue

The Equal Pay Act was introduced a long time ago so why does a recent report by the Equalities and
Human Rights Commission still find that women earn less than their male counterparts?
On average, women earn 16% less than their male equivalents.
By the time women reach the age of 40+, they are earning on average 27% less than their male counterparts.
A separate report by Russell Reynolds Associates finds…

Deciding to get external advice can be an emotional experience.
Most people know if they need and engineer, an accountant or some other professional expertise, but to call someone in to question the fundamentals of the business implies a self-criticism too far for a lot of people. After all, what could someone who is not close to the business bring to the party?
Research consistently shows that companies taking external advice… Continue

There's an issue that's been on my mind a lot recently, especially since the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) came out, and it's this: who will be the winners and who will be the losers over the coming months and years as the government tries to get this country out of the financial hole it has sunk into?
With all the bad news it's easy to assume doom and gloom for everyone (and certainly, if I worked in the public sector I wouldn't be partying at the moment). However, there may be… Continue
