Inappropriate use of Facebook and the need for a Social Media Policy

I attended a Mock Employment Tribunal in Reading earlier this week. The grounds of the claim were age discrimination (direct and indirect), victimisation and harassment.  The claimant was claiming against his employer AND against his line manager personally.  Interesting stuff.

Ultimately, an award was made in favour of the Claimant against the Employer and against his Line Manager.

Changes to Qualification Period for Unfair Dismissal come into effect 6th April 2012

The qualifying period for unfair dismissal claims will change from 1 year to 2 years on 6th April 2012.  Subject to approval by Parliament, it looks like this will not be retrospective.



Employees who commenced their employment on or before 5th April 2012 will still only need one year's service in order to be able to lodge a claim for unfair dismissal.…

Delivering on the promise (or not!)



Having had a particularly hectic January and February it was really lovely when John and I received the gift of a massage as a birthday present. 

We booked in to take advantage of an offer than ran until the end of February (nothing like a good offer to make you take action!).

When resilience is your other name

It hasn’t been the best week in our house.  My older daughter’s hope of getting into her dream school came to a crushing end and some interesting judging meant more disappointment at an Irish Dancing competition. (I’m allowed to not be objective!)  My instinct as a mother is to protect her from any more heartache.
