A year ago today Fabulous Women announced the launch of a Fabulous Women networking group in Guildford, headed by Jill Bennet.

A year later Fabulous Women has announced over 47 groups announced across the South East with managers appointed to run 10 regions namely: Surrey, Kent, East & West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Wiltshire, Buckinghamshire, Essex and London.

Regus study shows sleep-starved Brits struggle to balance family & work

A new global study by workplace provider Regus highlights that British office culture is detrimental to the health and home lives of many workers and that too few employers are backing up rhetoric on flexible working with real action.

Many businesses will not see this as a problem for them and will…

What’s Your Call To Action?

Whatever marketing you’re working on - website, advert, networking - ensure you have a clear call to action.

I always advise when creating a marketing communication to consider:

  • What do you want the prospective customer to think?
  • What do you want them to do?

The first part is…

Spread some love with Social Media

When I ask clients what they want to achieve from their social media activity, the results are nearly always the same – more leads, more customers, brand recognition, more subscribers, etc. However it’s rare that they include anything about their current customers. But, if you’re not following/connecting and…

How much knowledge is at risk in your organisation?

I've been working with a number of organisations to help them address their 'knowledge at risk' and 'knowledge retention' challenges.  Whilst it is very easy to rush in and take management action to address these, often urgent, challenges, a more considered approach will enable better actions to be implemented and in a sustainable way.

A good way to start to consider the knowledge at risk (from redundancy, office move, talent grabbing, early retirement etc) in your…

What can I say about your networking?

Tomorrow I present to New Directions Job Club on the benefits of Business Networking in Berkshire.

Apart from how excellent it is to view everyone in this site, what else can I say about the benefits and specifics of your groups?

Do you have any tips on how to get the most out of being at a business networking event?

Thanks

Tom

The Importance Of Small Business Insurance

In difficult financial times any small business owner looks around for ways to save some money and there are many areas which can’t be changed, such as servicing loans, rent on premises, supplies and logistics, but one item which seems at first sight to be able to be dispensed with is business insurance. Business insurance is a target because it doesn't seem to do anything. It doesn't produce anything, make anything run more easily or even make the tea – so why not cancel…

Take Your Time Online – Control Your Social Networking

When it comes to being in control of your social media, lots of people, particularly small businesses have concerns over wasting time on social websites. UK SMEs are owed a massive £36.4bn collectively in late payments

More than a million SME’s are facing late payments in the UK as evidenced by research undertaken by BACS in July 2012 and confirmed by additional research undertaken by Aldermore Bank.

“Late payments are a continuing drain on small and medium sized business owners in the UK. It’s critically important, at a time when we’re looking for SMEs to drive the economy out of recession, that they are freed from the shackles of late payments” says Damon Walford, Managing Director of Aldermore…

Sometimes I visit a website that leaves me feeling so confused…

Is Your Reputation Important?

Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are.”  John Wooden (American Basketball Player & Coach).

Our true character is made up of many qualities (some people might call them values) and when we embody those qualities, we are at our best.  What better way to maintain a positive reputation in business, than to ensure that how we do business is a…

Tips for Selling Your Business

The most common reasons for a business-owner wanting to sell their business are:

  • They desire a lifestyle change – for instance, retirement
  • They are an entrepreneur who feels the business has outgrown them and who is not motivated by the managerial requirements of a larger business
  • They believe the business needs significant investment to progress to the next stage
  • They want to bank the value they have created
  • They have received an un solicited…

Employability Skills: Why you should focus on strengths not weaknesses

I tweeted recently that if you play to your strengths, your weaknesses should pale into insignificance.  Someone responded that if you build on your weaknesses they will support your strengths. True, but I think they misunderstood what I was trying to say.

It's no good trying to be a scientist if you're no good at science; or a market analyst if you're not analytical.

Ascertain what you ARE good at, then look for a job or career where you can build on your…
